The Bright Light at the End of the Tunnel...is dim around the edges... no it's just my eyes

An end to my endless suffering is so near I can taste it and yet my body refuses to believe it. My rash demands attention as it proceeds to reclaim my torso. Alas I find myself pre-occupied with so many other thoughts. My joy at returning to the mid-West to the open loving arms of family though very comforting is tempered by many other thoughts. I know that all my concerns are just a matter of adjustments and that we will all work through them and that ultimately I really have nothing to worry about. Intellectually knowing that and digesting it are two really different things for me. I know that this whole thing is just a process. I'm finally over my feelings of guilty, and I'm super excited. I am worried about the grandma, will she be upset when: Erik and I try to set up a weekly menu system?-- Erik and I start doing the grocery shopping?-- I start taking over some of the cooking duties?-- I won't let her wash my clothes?-- I clean out the fridge and throw out all the icky things that are well past their dates?-- Will it upset her if I try to motivate her to find a hobby that gets her out of the house?
I know that there is no real reason to worry. If the grandma does get upset we'll deal with it at that point. Maybe one day a week Barb and I can get out of the house together, be girly, have fun... escape as it were. We can tell the grandma we're exercising... Then maybe she'll get off Barb's back too... :P

Once more into the Beach... erh... Breach even

Today starts the first day of classes for the Fall semester. I'm excited, scared, tired....

Yesterday Erik and I spent a better part of the day putting together our chifferobe. We've only been meaning to put it together since I got back home from my visit to Chicago. It's looks nice, and is a pretty sturdy piece of furniture for press board, unlike our entertainment center. tee hee! I've already stared putting my junk in it and on it :) Erik says it looks cute, which probably means yet another girly touch to the house ;P The apartment is coming together slowly but surely. If only maintenance would come back and do ALL of the things that need to be done. We have a wall that needs repairing, a storage cabinet that needs painting, a bathroom fan that needs cleaning, and the list goes on.... Well hopefully it will get done sooner rather then later...

No more now, I have to finish getting ready to go to my first class,

A Blinding Pillar of Light ~ my experience with the Force

We'll it's done! I have defeated the mighty Sith Lord. It was a long and difficult journey, but in the end the light guided me to victory, though I did try to redeem Malak before I killed him...

OK enough of the weird Star Wars speak... as you may have guessed from the above I finally completed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) for the X-Box. Erik and I don't have cable and consequently I've had to find other ways of amusing myself. One day on a whim I decided I wanted to try my hand at KOTOR. Erik and several of my friends said that it was highly entertaining, so I said what the heck. Oh the laundry that has sat around waiting for me to finish playing... :P

I'm glad I finished, last night it looked as though I wasn't going to make it, but this afternoon I reevaluated my strategy and prevailed :)

Now it'll be back to making jewelry and laundry to eat up the rest of my time this week. The kitty will be happy that I'll have more time to pay attention to her. Speaking of which, her majesty calls :)

^~.~^ more later

The Sad Tale of Boxes ~ how a girl is coping with the aftermath of a move

Well I've been home a couple weeks now, and I've been working feverishly unpacking and arranging the new apartment. I've run out of steam... :P~ I unpacked more then 20 boxes in about three days, and started to organize and rearrange the house.

Erik and I picked up a "couch" over the weekend. -------->
There's a picture of it. The sides are adjustable, it folds down to be a twin sized bed. It'll do in a pinch if we have someone over that wants to spend the night. I like it!

Other then that I've started making jewelry. {Thanks to the Mammahead :) } I'm experimenting with different techniques. I'm having a lot of fun. It's an expensive hobby though, It doesn't look that way at first $2 here, $4 there; You get quite the rude awakening when you get up to the register and you've spent almost $50, and all you have to show for it is a single not even full bag of beads. I'm still having a lot of fun though. I'm going to work on looking at purchasing some/most of the stuff I need online in bulk. Hopefully I can save some money that way. :) Erik's mom {The Mammahead} says she created a monster, Erik's pretty sure she's right :)

The Cinna-butt and I have re-bonded, not that it took very long at all. She yelled at me a little when I first got home, but pretty much immediately afterwards she was demanding loving from me. We have our morning mamma-kitty time, and she's back to snuggling with me when we go to bed. She's just a cute bundle of love. :)

Erik and I have been swimming in our apartment's swimming pool almost every night. We're having a lot of fun and getting the exercise that we both need. I've even found us an alternative place to swim for after the apartment's pool closes for the season. George Mason has an aquatic and fitness center... We'll be able to meet there when Erik picks me up from school, and we can swim before we go home. :)

That's all for now :)

There and back again- a tale of a visit home

Well I just recently returned home from a 3 week visit to Chicago. I had a really good time (for the most part), even enjoying a picnic that I thought I was going to hate. All in all I have very little in the way of complaints to voice, so I'll just go down the list of activities... :)

I arrived in Chicago June 29, a mere 2 days after Erik and I moved into the new apartment. My Dad and I had plans to go to lunch, but we had to cancel them because he had to work instead. So I hung out at his house.

June 30 - MaryEllen, my Dad and myself went to the Museum of Science and Industry... All Dad really wanted to do was go on the tour inside U-505. When we couldn't he was pretty pouty the rest of our trip there. We did however get to see the new U-505 exhibit which was pretty interesting, and well put together. MaryEllen want to see the plastic people exhibit it was interesting and disturbing all at the same time.
That evening I got to hang out with Alex and Yvette. It was so nice to see them :)

July 1 - MaryEllen, my Dad and myself went to the Shedd Aquarium which was fantastic as always. I love going there! There are so many cool exhibits: the oceanarium, the wild reef, and many other really neat exhibits. After exploring the aquarium, I met up with my good friend Paul at the Taste of Chicago. There we feasted on various foods including the surprisingly delectable fried twinkie. We also went on a boat tour of the lake. I also lost my glasses while we were at the Taste.
That evening Paul and I met up with Alex and Yvette and saw War of the Worlds. I thought it was OK, but I wasn't overly thrilled with it. We went out for dinner and ice cream afterwards. It was a fantastic day.

July 2 - I spent the day with my best friend Susan and her little niece at the HIP. We had a great time. Susan's niece was adorable. We parted ways in the early evening, I made my way back to my Dad's house. A little while later my mom picked me up and I spent the rest of the night at her house. We watched Meet the Fockers, which was pretty funny.

July 3 - While my Mom got her nails done, I got a chance to hang out with my younger cousin Katie, who at the time was very pregnant and who as of yesterday is the proud momma of a little boy named Alexander(pictured here is the happy family, the gentleman at the back is Javier the proud father). It was really nice to visit with her.

Later on in the afternoon my Mom and I met up with Susan and headed down to the lake to find a spot for the fireworks. We had a great time! I shared with Susan the joys of a fried Twinkie. We had snacks, played Uno, and genuinely enjoyed each others' company. The walk to the train was amazing, the streets were completely engulfed with a literally sea of people. The trip back to the car on the train was a long one, and about a minute after we left the train station to walk to the car it began to rain. Luckily the car wasn't very far.

July 4 - I spent most of the day with my Mom. We did a little shopping and then she dropped me back off at my Dad's. At Dad's we had homemade pizza for dinner.

July 5 - Quiet day at Dad's. Stopped at Aunt Connie's and Grandma's for a little bit.

July 6 - Ellie picked me up from my Dad's, we had lunch with Alex and then headed to Rockford.

July 8 - Mom Noble, Ellie and myself got our hair cut.

July 9 - All us girls (Barb, Mom, Ellie and myself) headed to Wisconsin for a day trip. We went to New Glarus, which is a cute little Swiss Village. We had lunch, walked around the town and had some ice cream. I had a flavor called Orange pudding. It was really tasty, creamy orange ice cream with maraschino cherries and nuts, Yummy!
After New Glarus we headed up the road a bit to Mt. Horeb, where we traveled down the Troll-way, and stopped at the International Mustard Museum. The gift shop was bigger then the museum itself. I was happy to discover that the gift shop offered more then just mustard (which I hate, btw :P).

July 10 - Barb, Ellie and myself took a beginning stringing class where we learned how to make bracelets and necklaces. Barb let Ellie and I pick out some beads to bring home, so that we could continue creating jewelry at home. We had SO much fun!

July 11 - July 13 - I had lots more fun in Rockford! Erik's family is awesome, I love them so much :) Ellie and I made lots of necklaces and bracelets, went shopping and generally goofed off. Mom taught Ellie and I the basics of how to quill. I worked on finishing an embellished journal cover for my cousin's birthday gift. The last day of my visit I got to see one of the hospitals where Barb delivers babies. Ellie took me back to my Dad's, and I took her out to lunch. I was sad to leave Rockford, I was having SO much fun.

July 14 - Saw my Dee and Simon. Went shopping with my Mom, we had a really nice time.

July 15 - Dad and I were supposed to go to a movie with Dee, but she completely forgot about us. Dad and I ran some errands. Picked up Dee. We had pizza and watch Friday-night SciFi. Over the course of the day I developed a killer migraine and consequently wasn't very good company.

July 16 - Dee and I hung out in the morning. My Mom picked us up in the afternoon. We had lunch and then went shopping. Dee was very excited about getting clothes for her birthday. After our shopping trip we went to other cousin Jennifer's birthday party. I started not feeling good while we were eating lunch, so by the time we got to the party I was feeling seriously sick. Mom took me back to my Dad's house, Dee joined me later. I continued to feel sick most of the night...

July 17 - Irish Clowns picnic... It was horribly hot, and we got a little bit of a late start... I really did have a good time though :) I thought I was going to be hot and completely bored. I stayed in the shade and played games and talked to my Aunt Cindy and her husband Abel. Aunt Connie, and Simon were also there; as well as some of MaryEllen's family. The food was good and I had ice cold cider (oh how I love cider, I tried some new cider Wood Chuck Pear Cider) Originally we were going to celebrate my grandmother's birthday at the picnic, but because of the weather Grandma opted to stay home, so we had cake and coffee at Aunt Connie's and gave Grandma her gifts there.

July 18 - Dad got sick while at the picnic, and was still doing pretty bad the following day. We were originally going to have father-daughter day; a movie, some lunch, maybe glow-in-the-dark mini-golf.... Instead I asked Simon to take me over to Mom's office, so I could say goodbye and take her some stuff that I needed shipped back to Virginia (I had more stuff than what was going to fit in my suitcase). I then took Simon to lunch and then over to Wright to meet my former manager. Afterward Simon dropped me off at Dad's where I proceeded to wash my clothes and pack.

July 19 - Dad took me to Mr. K's for breakfast, and then to the airport. The flight went OK, and arrived on time. Erik picked me up at the airport and then we went to lunch.

Since I've been home I've done most of the un-packing and Erik and I have discovered how cool our apartment complex's pool is.

That pretty much concludes what happened over my visit to the mid-west. :)

Moving beyond the PLAGUE

So I've had what my fiancee is calling the PLAGUE for the last two weeks. The nurse practitioners at school suspect that I might have whooping cough. All I know is that last week I felt like the walking dead, and this week I'm improving, but I'm not 100% quite yet. Erik and I are beginning our move over the weekend. I'm not supposed to help because of my illness, and I feel pretty crappy about not being able to help. We take possession of the apartment on Sat. So Erik and I will start moving over some of the misc. Stuff that the movers won't move at that time. We'll also be going on a bit of a shopping spree. We need to get some new things to replace the old things that are unfit to be moved. :P

Monday the movers are scheduled to come and move all the rest of our stuff to the new apartment. It's exciting and scary all at the same time. I'm looking forward to the new apartment, but the actual moving part really sucks...

To matters yet more stressful and interesting, I'm leaving for a 3 week visit home on Wednesday. I'm half looking forward to the visit half not looking forward to it. The family politics can be really oppressive and I'm not physically or emotionally in a place to cope with it very well. I'm hoping to escape the trip with only minor emotional bruising, but one never knows what lies behind the next corner. Hopefully my worrying is completely un founded and the trip will go well, if not I'll cherish the good bits and try to forget about the bad bits.
